About Sedation Dentistry
We understand that visiting the dentist can make many people anxious, especially when it involves surgery or longer appointments. That’s why we offer both conscious IV sedation and non-IV sedation options for your comfort.
Conscious IV Sedation:
Administered through a small IV, this allows you to relax deeply during your procedure. You’ll remain conscious but calm, and most patients remember little to nothing afterward. Perfect for implant or surgical visits.
Non-IV Sedation Options:
For patients who prefer a lighter level of relaxation, we offer oral medication. This option helps you feel comfortable and at ease while remaining fully awake.
From your first visit to your final result, our team makes sure you feel safe, supported, and cared for every step of the way.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is conscious sedation?
Conscious sedation (often IV sedation) uses medication to help you relax and stay calm during dental treatment. You remain awake and able to respond to the dentist, but most patients feel drowsy and remember little of the procedure.
Is sedation safe?
Yes. Conscious sedation is widely used in dentistry and has an excellent safety record. At Destin Implant Studio, sedation is administered and monitored by a trained professional using modern equipment to track your vital signs throughout the procedure.
Who benefits most from sedation dentistry?
Patients who have dental anxiety, a strong gag reflex, low pain tolerance, or need longer or more complex procedures — such as implant surgery — often find sedation very helpful.
Will I feel pain during treatment?
No. In addition to sedation, we use local anesthesia to numb the treatment area. Sedation simply helps you feel relaxed and comfortable.
How will I feel after sedation?
Many patients feel a little groggy for a few hours after the procedure. You’ll need a responsible adult to drive you home and stay with you for the rest of the day.
Is conscious sedation the same as being “put to sleep”?
Not quite. Unlike general anesthesia, conscious sedation keeps you awake but deeply relaxed. Most people have little memory of the procedure.
Do I need to prepare for my sedation appointment?
Yes. We’ll give you clear instructions, which typically include fasting for a few hours before your appointment and arranging for a driver to and from the office.
